New Classrooms Create Smiles At Norkama Primary School

In early 2013, Sarama completed the construction of three new classrooms for the children of Ecole Primaire de Norkama (Norkama Primary School) in Norkama, a village situated on Sarama's Tankoro permit in Burkina Faso. Sarama financed the CFA 16.2m investment, employing local labour to build a facility that would house 150 local students.

A handover ceremony took place on 29 June and was attended by local Government officials, chieftainship, community members and Sarama’s key in-country management. The day was celebrated with joyful tears, smiles, speeches, ribbon cutting, and local food, music and dance.

Since the commencement of Sarama’s relationship with Norkama Primary School in 2011, a number of social initiatives have taken place that have supported the school in becoming an official Government exam centre and contributed to a 50% increase in student numbers and a notable 60% increase in females in the past three years.
